نَضْحْ - (Rain. (L نَاضِحْ ٢ L) - Also)

and ◌ٌأَنْضِحَة :[see also ◌ٌنَضُوح :] what is thick,
like خَلُوق and غَالِيَة , is called ◌ْنَصْح . (I) -

well to irrigate seed-produce ; so called because
it is a means of moistening [or allaying] thirst

¿ &, He sprinkled him, or it, [with water
&c]:or iq. ◌ُنَّضَحَه :(:) AZ says,
signifies the act of sprinkling, like &; these
two words being syn .: you say cina, aor.
or the former signifies less than (:): أَنْضَحُ
the latter: (₭:) so most say : (L:) or the
former signifies what is unintentional ; and the
latter, what is intentional : (IAar, L:) As says,
that the latter is the act of man : (L :) and the
former, be says, signifies more than the latter,
and has no pret. nor aor .: and Aboo-'Othman
Et-Towwazee says, that the former signifies the
mark, or effect, that remains upon a garment or
other thing, and that the act is termedas,
with unpointed: ($:) As says, that ¿ os has
no verh nor act. part. n .; and A'Obeyd says,
that it has no pret. nor aor. ascribed to any
authority : or you say ◌َنَضَحْتُ الثَّوْب , nor. = and
:, inf. n. ¿ &s, I metted the garment; and it
نُضِخَتْ (.Meb). نَضَحْتُ significs more than
-Her (a she-camel's) arm , تَضَخَانْ .inf.n ,مُغَائِنُهَا
pits were sprinkled with pitch. (§, L, from a
٨ أُصَابَهُ نَضْعٌ مِنْ كَذَا (.verse of El-Katamee
sprinkling, more [or less] than what is termed

boiled forth vehemently (in gushing, L,) froin its

to a man, the meaning (of the first of these three
forms, as mentioned by En-Nadr and Sh and in
the Mgh and TA, and of the * second, as inen-
tioned by As, and En-Nadr and Sh, &e., and
of the " third, as mentioned in the TA,) is God
made him to have enjoyment, or plentiful and
pleasant and easy life; syn. 4025; (S, Mgli,
Mgb, TA;) or جَعَلَهُ نَاضِرًا [which significs the
same]: (A'Obeyd :) or نَضَرَهُ اللّه , (El-Azdee,
Mgh,) and نضّرهُ الله , (El-Hasan El-Muaddib,
'TA,) signifies + God made his rank, or station,
good (El-Azdee, El-Hasan El-Muaddib, Mgh,
TA,) among mankind : (El-Hasan El-Muaddib,
TA :) not relating to beauty of the face; (El-
Azdee, El-IIasan El-Muaddib, Mgh, TA :) but
أَطْلُبُوا الحَوَائِجَ إِلَى ,is similar to the saying
.[وجه .which see explained in art] حِسَانِ الوُجُوهِ
(El-ȚIasan El-Muaddib, TA.) As cites this
verse :
نْضَّرَ اللهُ أَعْظُمَا دَفْنُوهَا
بِسِجِسْتَانَ طَلْحَةَ الطَّلَحَات
.
[ May God grant enjoyment to bones which they
have buried in Sijistan : (I mean) Talhat-et-
Taluhit]. (TA.) And it is said in a trad.,
نَضْرَ اللهُ عَبْدًا سَمِعَ مَقَالَتِى فَوَعَاهَا ثُمَّ أَوَّاهَا

or a plentiful and pleasant and easy life, [the
serrant, or man, who hears what I say, and
keeps it in mind, then conveys it to him who

above explanation in the Mub and K, "beauty,"
is evidently imperfeet. Accord. to the Msb, the
word is a simple subst., not an inf. n.] + Pleasant-
ness of conntenance. - ◌ِنَضْرَةٌ لنّعِيم + The beauty
and brightness of aspect characteristic of en-
joyment, or of a plentiful and pleasant and easy
state of existence: so in the Kur, Ixxxiii. 24:
(Bd, Jel :) or the brightness, or glistening, and
moisture (150 ) [upon the shin] characteristic

and in like (: ؟): أَبْيَضُ نَاصِعْ and نَاقِعْ
manner it is used as an intensive epithet applied
to any colour: you say ◌َأَحْمَرُ نَاضِر [intense, or
bright, red], and أَصْفَرُ نَاضِر [intense, or bright,
أَخْضَرْ yellow]: (K:) so says IApr: (TA:) or
you signifies smooth green, accord. to A'Obeyd,
and Az adds, glistening in its clearness. (TA.)

[We smote him on the tendon of the upper part
of his shoulders : we slem him : me slew him : me
slew him]. قلنا به signifies ◌ُقَتَلْنَاه .(TA.)

in a thing with which one clears, or clarifies, [i.e.

relating to the sight is most common with the
vulgar, but not with persons of distinction, who use
it more in another sense, to he explained below.
(TA.) You say, ◌ٌنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ نَظْرَةً حُلْوَة [He looked
at him, or towards him, with one sweet look.]
(A.) And ◌ِنَظَرَ فِى المِنَّظَار [He looked in the
mirror]. (A) And ◌ِنَظَرَ فِى الكِتَاب [He looked
into, or inspected, the writing or book], (A, Msb,)
which is for ◌ِنَظَرَ المَكْتُوبَ فِى الكِتَاب [he looked
at what was written in the writing or book], or

of such a one. (S) And ◌ُ؛ نَظَرَ إِلَيْكَ الجَبَلThe
mountain faced thee: (A:) as in the following ex .:
إِذَا أَخَذْتَ فِى طَرِيقٍ كَذَا فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْكَ الجَبْلُ فَخُذْ

is mostly used as relating to the intellect by

it; had a view to it.] And نَظَرَ فِيه + Ile con-
sidered it : (TA :) or thought upon it; namely a
writing or book; or when such is the object it
may have another meaning, explained before;

Hence the saying of Ez-Zuhree, (K,) Mohammad
لَا تُنَاظِرْ بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ وَلَا بِكَلَامِ (,Ibn-Shildh, (TA
adi JaJj, i.e., Thou shalt not call anything like
the book of God, nor like the words of the apostle
of God: (A'Obeyd, T, K :) or thou shalt not
compare anything, nor call anything like, to the
book of God, &e. : (A,) or thou shalt not apply
[aught of ] the book of God, nor the words of the
apostle of God, as a proverb to a thing that
happens : (A'Obeyd, T, Ķ; in which last, we
read لِشَىْءٍ لِغَرْض, in the place of the right reading,
TA:) for, as Ibraheem En-Nakha'ee: لِشَىْ يَعْرِضُ
says, they used to dislike the mentioning a verse
of the Kur-an on the occasion of anything hap-
pening, of worldly events; (T;) as a person's
saying to one who has come at a time desired by
the former, (TA,) or to one named Moosà, wlio
paring it. (M, Ķ, TK. In the M and Ķ, only
thie inf. n., jis, of the verb in this sense is men-
tioned.) And ◌ِنَظَرَ فِى أَمْوَالِ الأَيْتَام tIle con-
sidered, or examined, [or estimated,] the possessions
of the orphans, in order to know them. (Msb.)
And similar to this is the phrase [in the Kur,
xxxvii. 86,] ◌ِفَنَطَرَ نَظْرَةٌ فِى النُّجُوم , meaning, t and
he examined the science of the stars : (Msb :) [or
he took a mental view of the stars, as if to divine
from them.] النظر when used unrestrictedly by
those who treat of scholastic theology means

denvouring to understand it, or to hnow its result ;
or judging of what is hidden from what is ap-

when you say انتظر without any objective com-
plement, the meaning is, [he waited; or] he
paused, and acted or behaved with deliberation,
or in a patient, or leisurely, manner. (Lth, T.)
أُنْظُرُونَا تَقْتَبِسْ [,19 .It is said in the Kur, [lvii
that ne (انْتَظِرُونَا) Wait for us مِنْ نُورِكُمْ
may take of your light : and accord. to Zj,
which is another reading] is said to] انْظِرُونَا
mean the same: or the latter means delay us :
أَنْظِرْنِى accord. to Fr, however, the Arabs say
meaning Wait thou for me (انْتَظِرْنِى) a little.

of the nose, commencing from the inner angles of
the eyes, towards the face. (Zj, in his Khalk
el-Insan.) _ Also, ناظر t A guardian; a

[K, TA,) [which last is), نَاطُورٌ.٤.٩, نَاظُوْرًا
a word of the Nabathean dialect. (TA.) -
عُيَيْنَتِى نُوَيْظِرَةً ,You any [. نُوَيُظِرْ The dim. is]
(My eye (lit. my little eye: إلَى اللهِ ثُمَّ إِلَيْكُمْ
is looking to God for His bounty, then to you for
your hounty. (A.) == In the Kur, [lxxv. 23,]
the words ◌ٌإِلَى رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَة have been explained
as signifying Waiting for (ًمُنْتَظَرَة) their Lord :
but this is a mistake; for the Arabs do not say
but , انْتَظَرْتُهُ in the sense of نَطَرْتُ إِلَى الشَّيْء
they say نَظَرْتُ فُلانًّا in that sense. (T.)

aspect; or beauty of aspect; as also "aufans: this
is implied by the usage of ◌ّمَنْظَرَانِى, q.٧٠, and is
well known :] or what one looks at and is pleased
by or displeased by; as also Va,lano: (M, K :)
or the former, a thing that pleases and rejoices the
beholder when he looks at it : (T:) and the " latter,
the aspect (sas) of a man when one looks at it
and is pleased by it or displeased by it. (T, TA.")
You say, ◌ْلَهُ مَنْظَرْ حَسَن [He has a goodly aspect].
(A.) And ◌ِإِمْرَأَةٌ حَسَنَةُ المَنْظَر, and المَنْظَرَةِ ؟ , [A
مَنْظَرُهُ خَيْرْ woman goodly of aspect.] (S) And
His aspect is better than his internal] مِنْ مَخْبَرِهِ
(K:) or the eye is called " ◌ُالنّاظِرَة ;(S,A ;* ) |and ◌ٍذُوٍ مَنْظَرَةٍ بِلَا مَسْبَرَة, (A,) [Verily he has a
pleasing aspect without a pleasing internal state.]

rather a belvedere, and any building, or apartment,

healing. (W, i. 42.) And ◌ُنَفَرَ الجِنَّد :The
skin became swollen, (§, A,) and the flesh receded

the heat : say, The fire of hell is hotter]: and

trad. of Zeyneb, the daughter of Mohammad,
And فَأَنْفَرَ بِهَا الْمُشْرِكُونَ بَعِيرَهَا حَتَّى سَقَطَتْ
the polytheists made her camel to take fright and
run away at random with her, so that she fell.
ونُفِرَبِنًا and ,أنْفِرَ بِنا ,And in like manner you say
[or ji ? Our camels were scared away with
us ; or made to take fright and run away at
random with us : or] we were made to be persons
having camels taking fright and running away
at random. And jis signifies The chiding ca-
mels or sheep or goats, and driving them from
بَشِّرُوا وَلَا تُنْفِرُوا [the pasturage. (TA.)- [Hence
+ [ Rejoice people by what ye say, and] do not
encounter them with [roughness and violence and]
that which will incite them to ",if [i. e. flight or

,تَنْفِيرٌ . .K,) inf,؟) , نَّفِرْ عَنْهَ [,IIence also] -
(TA,) t Give thou to him a AJ [meaning a
nickname or name of reproach], ($,) or a
that is disliked : (K :) as though they held such
to be ◌َتَنْغِيْرٌ لِلْجِنٍّ وَالعَيْنِ عَنْه [a means of scaring
away the jinn, or genii, and the evil eye, from
him]. ($, Ķ.) An Arab of the desert said,
When I was born, it was said to my father,

and surnamed me أَبُو العَدَّاء [father of the quick

back from the caravan and the fight except him

the proverb are ◌ِلا فِى العِيدٍ وَلَا فِى النّغِير : and
these words were first said by Aboo-Sufyan,
with reference to the Benoo-Zulrah, when he
found them turning back towards Mekkeh; and,

some copies of the K, ونيفور (TA,) A gazelle that
takes fright and flees much or often; or that is

كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُسْتَنْفِرَةٌ * فَرَّتْ مِنْ [,51.Kur, [lxxiv
