elevated, or high, table-land: only stony and
rugged, or hard, elevated land, like a mountain,
standing over against one and intercepting his
view of what is behind it, but not very high,
is thus called : (L:) pl. "JI, (S, L, K,) a pl.
of pauc., (TA,) and SuJi, (L, K,) [also a pl.
of panc.,] and نجاد and ◌ٌنُجُود (S. L, K) and

beyond Mekkch: the tract beyond this, west-
ward, is Ghowr, or Ghor; and beyond this,
southwards, is Es-Sarah, as far as the frontiers
of El-Yemen : (El-Bahilee, L:) or, as the
Arabs of the desert have been heard to say,
the country which one enters when, journeying
upwards, he leaves behind him 'Ijliz, which is
above El-Karyateyn, and which he quits when
he descends from the mountain-roads of Dhát-
'Irk, where he enters Tihameh, and when he
meets with the stony tracts termed ,ly- in Nejd,

mentioned by the poet were stolen from among
a variety of camels, and comprised every species

means, he lias in him every sort of disposition,
and has no opinion in which he is settled.

which the Arabs used to do, as an amulet, to drive

by which may be] ; تَّعْوِيذٌ is syn. with نِجَاس ٧
meant either that it signifies an amulet, or that it
is a quasi-inf. n. of 2; for it is said that] it is
app. a subst. from نَّس له , or ◌ُنَّجَسَه, as signifying

there is fear, unclean things, such as bones of the
dead, and the like, to drive away the jinn, or

consider it as implying the signification of vowing.

قَوْمٌ سَأَتْرُكُ فِى أَعْرَاضِهِمْ نَدَبَا

A people upon whose reputation I will lenre scars,
the effects of my satires. (TA.) = The
direction in which one shoots an arrow or
arrows : syn. 2. (So in the $ and the CK
and several MS. copies of the K : in other copies,
, The act of shooting an arrow or arrons.
Both these readings arc correct accord. to the
TA. See below.) ◌ِإرْتَمَى نَدَبًا أَوْ نَدَبَيْن He
shot an arrow or arrows in one direction or in
to directions: syn . ◌ِوَجْهَا أَوْ وَجَهَيْن .(TA.) -
said by those who are to contend) نَدَبُنَا يَوْمَ كَذَا
at a shooting-match, TA,) The day of our com-
mencing shooting shall be such a day. (K.) This
confirms the assertion in the TA, that it is
syn. with ◌ٌّرشّق, as well as with ◌ٌرِشْق . In the
Turk. K, in the place of يوم ابتدائنا, we find
and Freytag adopts the latter ; يوم انْتِدَابِناً
reading; but I find no other authority for it.]

نَدْرَ البِكَّارَةِ فِى الجَزَآءِ المُضْعَفِ
[When the courageous men covered with arms
mutually throw out from the rechoning the piercing
of the kidneys, as the young camels fall out
from the reckoning in the doubled compensation] :
he says, that their blood is suffered to be shed un-
revenged, like as the young camels are thrown out
from the account in the mulet for homicide :
(§, TA:) meaning, that the pierced kidneys are
thrown out from the reckoning, like as the young
camel is thrown out, and not reckoned, in the
mulet for homicide that is doubled time after
time. (IB, TA.) قُلَانْ يَتْنَادَرُ عَلَيْنًا ـ (A, TA)

nification of ,Juil seems to be He desired to find

or to single out.] - ◌ُاستندروا أَثْرَه !They tracked

India : the Arabs hunt them, and speak to them,
and they speak the Arabic language, and propa-
gate onc with another, and poctize, or versify, and
name themselves by the names of the Arabs: (TA:)

a pigmy : and also, to an ape:] Es-Suyootee
Bays, in the Deewan el-Hayawan, as to the animal
which the vulgar call Lins, it is a species of
نسا - نزر
apes or monkeys, not living in water, and the eating
of which is unlawful : but as to the marine animal,
Aboo-Hamid holds the eating of the نسناس [of any
kind] to be unlawful, because it has the form of

completeness, (consequent upon eating dry food,
جَرَى النَّسْ، فى - (؟). إِقْتِرَار being called
-TA,) [Fatness, or its com) ,مَارَ or (؟), الدَّوَابّ
menrement, ran through the beasts of carriage].

IS Length of life. (Akh, $, K.) _ The
Fukoeh of the Arabs [El-Harith Ibn-Keledel,
as said in the Mz, close of 39th Ess, where the
مَنْ سَرَّهُ النَّسَاءِ وَلَا ,following is quoted,] says
نَسَاءَ فَلْيُخَفِّفِ الرِّدَاءِ وَلْيُبَاكِرِ الغَدَآءِ وَلْيُؤَخِّرِ العَشَآء
Let him whom length of life ] وَلْيُقِلَّ غِشْمَانَ النِّسَآء
rejoiceth (but there is no long endurance in life)
lighten his debts, and make his morning-meal
early, and delay his evening-meal, and take little
enjoyment in women] : (S," TA :) .IN! here
means alebt. (T, M, TA, in art. (53), where
this saying is eited with some variations.)
in the sense of the فَعِيلٌ of the mensure , نَسِئْ:
measure Janks, ($,) A month which the Arabs,
in the time of paganism, postponed: (K :) the
doing of which is forbidden in the Kur, ix. 37.
(Ş.) - Also, as an inf. n. of US, (which it is
also said to be in the L,) The postponing of a
muth : i. e., the postponing of the sacredness of
a mouth ; transferring it to another month.
When the Arabs returned from Mina, [after the
accomplishment of the pilgrimage,] it was eusto-
mary for a man of the tribe of Kinaneh to arise
and say, ◌ٌأَنَا الَّذِى لَا يُرَدُّ لِى قَضَاء ["I am be
whose deerce is not to be rejected "]; ($;) or

Mobarrain free from restriction to them. (S.)
[But this, as appears from what is said in the
Kur, ix. 37, was not done every year.] The
tribes of Teiyi and Khath'am did not observe the
sacred months; therefore the ◌ٍنَّاسِئ (or postponer)
proclaimed it lawful to slay them therein, when

fying the " bent part at each end of a bow;"
