but this is a mistake, occasioned by a false read-
ing of the next words in the M, which are yoy
, فَوْرُ العِرْقِ - ([.فَوَّرْ TA. [Sce). فَوَارْ رَغِيبٌ وَاسِعْ
in a horse means The vein's having inflations, or
knots, [or 'a varicose condition,] apparent in it;
which is disapproved. (ISk, TA.) _,U said
of water signifies also It welled, and came forth,
from the carth, or ground: (Mgh :) it appeared,
pouring forth, from the spring, or source. (TA.)
- 19,l' is said of men assembled in market-places
[app. as meaning They bustled, or were in a state

be the meaning of ◌ْمِنْ قَوْرِهِم in the Kur iii. 121 :

مِنْ فَورِهِمْ or ceasing from motion]: (K, TA:) or
in the Kur ubi supra means in the commencement
of their procedure : (O:) or in, or at, their instant
of time; (Ksh, Bd;) i.e. [in, or at, the same
instant, or] immediately : (Bd :) and by Si
i.e. I came to] قَبْلَ أَنْ أَسْكُنَ meaning ,مِنْ فَوْرِى
such a. one before my resting, or ceasing from
,فَعَلْتُهُ مِنْ فَوْرِى ,motion]. (S, O.) And you say
meaning I did it at once, or instantly. (T, TA.)
J' Gazelles: (T, S, M, Ķ :) a word having no
sing .; (T, S, M, TA;) accord. to IAar and
Yaakoob: (TA:) or its sing. is VSÚ; (M, Ķ,
لَا أَفْعَلُ ,TA;) accord. to Kr. (TA.) One says
I will not do such a thing while كَذَا مَا لَاَلاَتِ الفُورُ
the gazelles wag their tails. (IAar, T, S.)
The odour of musk: or the bag, or قَارَةُ المِسْكِ
receptacle, [i. e. the follicle, or vesicle,] thereof :
(M, L:) [Sgh says that] this and what next follows
have been mentioned in art. JU, [q. v., ] but should
more properly be mentioned in the present art.,
فَارَةُ الإِبِلِ - (.)). يَفُورُ.or ,فَار both being from
means The sweet exhalation from the skins of the
camels when they are moist after returning from

,The place where people congregate فَوْرَةُ النَّاسِ -
and where they bustle, or are in a state of commo-
tion, (َيَفُورُون)) in their market-places. (TA.) -
The higher, or highest, part; and the فَوَرَةُ الجَبَلِ
elevated and hard, or elevated and plain or level,
part; of the mountain. (K.)
meaning A [فار .expl. in art] فُؤْرَةٌ .q . فُورَةً
certain flatus in the pastern of a horse [d.c.].

collection, of red sand; or a piece, or collection,

mentioned by Ibn-'Abbád. (O.) And [in like
manner] Von's signifies The mantling foam upon
the surface of wine. (TA.)

Boiling much ; &c .: __ and Water, &c., welling
forth abundantly; gushing]. _ [ Hence,] }
ji, A smiting [that inflicts a wound] such as is
wide, (IAar, M, TA,) so that the blood flows
[abundantly]: (M:) a poet says,
بِضَرْبٍ يُغَفِّتُ قَوَّارُهُ
وَطَعْنٍ تَرَى الدَّمَ مِنْهُ رَشِيئًا

the TT, for ◌ّتَرَّى الدِّم ,has يُرى الدم ; and for
and the right reading of: او يعيشا it has ,أَنْ يَعِيشًا
زيِضَرْبٍ تُخَفِّتُ قَوَّارة ,the first hemistich seems to be
for an inf. n. is sometimes made fem. : see an in-
stance of yo as fem. in the EM p. 157: the
poet means, With a smiting that silences, or hills,
inflicting a wide and gushing wound; and a pierc-
ing with the spear in consequence of which thou
seest the blood sprinkled : when they slay a horse-
man of you, we are responsible for him after it
that he shall live: i. e., as is said in the M, his
blood shall be revenged, so that he will he as
though he had not been slain : and it is also there
لنها واسعة قدمها is meant يخفّت فواره said that by

the $29 [or haunch], to the belly, or interior of
the body, not obstructed by bons : (M, Ķ :) [these
two explanations plainly apply to the sacro-
ischiatic foramen : but what here follows is con-
sistent with what precedes, though somewhat less
clear:] or the ◌ٍفَوَّارَتَان ,(,) or ◌ِفُوَّارَتَان , (accord.
to a copy of the M,) are [two parts, in the region
of the pelvis, described as being] Suk [a word
which I do not find to have any proper meaning
that would be here apposite, but which seems to be
applied in this case, by a kind of catachresis, to two
parts through which a weapon or the like may pass,]
between [each of ] the haunch-bones or hip-bones (
or ischium ], towards] ◌ُحْتُح and the (الوَرِكَيْنِ
the side of the $29 [or hip-bone], (M, Ķ,) not
intervening as obstacles in the way to the belly, or
interior of the body; and they are what become
in a state of commotion in the act of walking, or

And accord. to Lth; the term قوّارتان , (O, and 80
in a copy of the T,) or 80) , فوارتان in another
copy of the T,) is applied to Two appertenances
of the Je [or stomach, properly of a ruminant
animal], having within them two small nodous
lumps (JÚJE), which latter are not eaten, and
each of which is a piece of flesh in the midst of
red flesh. (T, O.)

gained, or won, good, or good fortune, (S, A, O,
Mab," K,) or his wish or desire, or what he desired
or sought ; (Bd in iii. 182, and TA;) he met
with, or experienced, that for which one would be
regarded with a wish to be in the like condition,
without its being desired that it should pass away
from him; he became far from what was disliked,
or hated, or evil: (TA :) he succeeded, or was suc-
cessful : he mon, or gained the victory : (Msb :)
[he had his arrow drawn, or] his arrow came
forth [from the Lly], in the game called predl :
and $ it (an arrow) won; or came forth before its

طُوبَى لِمَنْ فَازَ بِالثَّوَابِ وَفَازَ مِنَ العِقَابِ TA.) And
A happy end is his who gains reward and escapes

the latter is not used in this sense unless preceded

such a one died after him]: and accord. to others,

temporary safety] which is between the present life

here is, far from punishment. (TA.) __ A cause,
or means, of prosperity, or success, or of the at-
tainment or acquisition of that which one desires
or seeks, or of what is good, or of that whereby

Ș, O,' AHei,) or " he died :" (Msb, TA :) AHei
condemns the former of these assertions; but Az
and ISd say that it is the more commonly ap-
proved, though the latter is the more agreeable
with analogy : (TA :) or it is so called because
he who comes forth from it, having traversed it,
is safe : (IAar, TA :) the pl. is jati. : ($:) and
"ju signifies the same as aflis: so in a trad. of
Kapb Ibn-Malik ; ◌ًفَاسْتَقْبَلَ سَفَرًا بَعِيدًا وَمَغَازًا [And
he saw before him, or looked forward to, a far
journey and a desert, or a waterless desert, &c.].

Mgh, O, Meb,) He committed to him), تَفْوِيضَ
the thing, affair, or case; syn. 3), (S, A, O, Ķ,)
or ◌َصَهَّر ، (M,) or ◌َسَلَّم :(Mgh, Meb;) abrtaining
from contention, or litigation; (Mgh;) and made
him arbiter thereof. (TA.) It is said in the Kur
[xl. 47], (TA,) ◌ِوَأَفَوِّضُ أَمْرِى إِلَى اللّه (A, TA) And
I commit my case unto God, making Him arbiter
(,0,؟) , التَّغْوِيضُ فِى النِّكَاحِ - (.thereof. (TA
or ◌ِنِكَاحُ التَّقْوِيض, (TA,) is The giving [a woman]
in marriage without [requiring] a dowry. (§, O,
TA.) You say, ◌َفوّض المَرْأَة He gave the woman
in marriage without [requiring] a dowry. (Ķ.)
فَوَّضَتْ Mgh,) or) , فَوَضَتْ بُضْعَهَا إِلَى زَوْجِهَا And

3. Lojt" signifies The being copartner, or co-
partners, in everything; (O, Ķ;) [as though each
of two persons, or every one of more than two,
committed all that he had to the other, or others;]
as also VJojűűj. (K.) [See 6.] Hence, (TA,)
,Copartnership in everything; (Lth شِرْكَةُ المُنَاوَضَّةِ
M, Ș, A," Mgh," TA ;) in which everything is
common property ; (Lth, M, TA;) opposed to
:which is copartnership in one thing ,شِرْكَةُ العِنَانِ
(Lth:) or copartnership of two persons in all that
they possess: (MBb:) or copartnership of two
persons in all that is in their hands, or that they
may afterwards acquire; which is null and void
accord. to Eshi-Shafi'ee, but allowable accord. to
Aboo-Haneefeh and his two companions [Aboo-
Yousuf and Mohammad]. (TA.) You say,
I was copartner with him شَارَكْتُهُ شِرْكَةَ مُفَاوَضَةٍ
in all the property that we both together possessed.
(Az, TA.) Hence also, (TA,) مُفَاوَضَةُ العُلْمَاء The
conversing and conferring of the learned on matters
of science; each of two persons receiving what the
other had [to communicate], and giving what he
himself had to the other; as though each com-
mitted what he had to his companion. (O,' TA.)
- The commixing [in social intercourse]. (A.)
- The being coequal. (A, O, Ķ.) _ The com-
peting (ci,; ) in an affair. (Ķ.) You say,

been led to assign to gogli a wrong meaning,
which Freytag has inadvertently copied,]) and

K;) فوضى being pl. of قَائض , whichis not in use:
(Lth, O:) or mixed, ($, O, M, K,) one with
فوضى ,another ; (8, O, K;) in which sense, also
is applied to a number of ostriches: (§, O:) or
having no commander, nor any to collect them
together : (M:) or mixed, and having no com-

The wild animals are in a state of separation, or
dispersion, (O, TA,) going to and fro. (TA.)
Their possessions are property أموالهم فوضى بينهم
which they share among themselves; as also it, is

it is prefixed to another noun [which is either

which it should be prefixed is suppressed and
neither this nor its meaning is meant to be under-

that : (AO, O:) hence also, in the Kur [iv. 12],
Mgh, Mpb) i. e. 1 [And) فَإِنْ كُنَّ نِسَةٌ فَوْقَ اثْنَتَيْنِ

he ate much of the food : so says IAar, not par-
ticularizing the act as being after scarcity or not.

the . is elided, and the , becomes a movent final,
therefore it must be changed into 1, because of
the fet-hah preceding it, so the word becomes U;
but a noun may not be of two letters whereof one
is [the _ of ] the tenween, (K, TA,) thus the pas-
sage is expressed in the M, but MF remarks that
correctly we should say whereof one is the 1, (TA,)
and therefore a hard letter is substituted for it,
one similar to it in kind, which is », for they are
both labials, and in the , is a sort of humming
sound (ُّهَوِى, in the CK ◌ُّهُوِى,) in the mouth, [or
rather in the nose,] resembling [the sound of ] the
prolongation of the ,: (Ķ, TA :) [several similar
disquisitions, added in the TA, respecting the
change from oss to, I omnit, regarding them as
needless: what is said on this subject in the $,
in art. ¿ , I have mentioned in that art. : ] in the
present art., J says that the _ of _ is a substi-
tute for the ., not for the ,, of oss; but this is a
mistake: (IB, TA :) the dual of " is ow and
the second ,فَمَيَانٍ IAar, S, Mub, K) and) قَهُوَانٍ
and third of which are anomalous: (IAar, Ķ :)
of the second, which occurs in a verse of El-
Farezdak, [and respecting which see the first
paragraph of art. , ] Sb says that it is used by
poetic license. (TA.) In using it as a prefixed
noun, in the phrase mis Iji, they deemed the
combination of the two .s difficult in respect of
utterance; therefore they suppressed the [radical]
. thereof [in this case, and then in other, similar,
وَأَيْتُ قَا and ,فُو زَيْدٍ and ,هْذَا قُوهُ ,cases], and said

meaning 1 Such a one ,سَقَى فُلْانْ إِبِلَهُ عَلَى أَفْوَاجِهَا
drew for his camels the water when they came to
it, while they were drinking; not having stored it
جَرَّ فُلان for them in the drinking-trough : and
ISuch a one suffered his camels إِبِلَهُ عَلَى أَنْوَاجِهَا
to pasture while going along [by his driving them

to the A and other lexicons; but the author of the
Ķ, by an omission, has assigned the latter ex-
planation tothe former phrase. (TA.);
K, TA,) has) ,أُدْنَى طَرِيقٍ meaning ,إلَيْهِ فَا كَرِشٍ
[with other, similar, phrases] been explained in
art. ٩٠٢٠] كرش] . (TA.) - ◌ٍِفُو فَرَسٍ حَم [Mouth
of a horse that is suffering indigestion in conse-
quence of his having eaten barley and so made it
to stink] is an appellation applied to him who has
stinking breath. (TA. [An ex. of it occurs in a
verso of Imra-el-keys cited in the TA in art. ya
as in Ahlwardt's "Divans of the Six Ancient
Arabic Poets," p. 125; and differently in De
rat] and ys s [ Mouth of a sort of small wingless
locust, or perhaps correctly als & mouth of a
small wingless locust,] are nicknames applied to a
,ولَا فُضَّ قُوهُ ,little man. (TA.) - One says also
meaning 1 May his teeth, or front teeth, not be
broken. (K," TA.) And ','s Lh_ + His teeth fell
مَاتَ لِفيهِ q. v.]) - And] فض .out. (TA in art

the J in both being used in the sense of عَلَى; aB

perfumes, or odoriferous substances : (Ķ:) and
the sorts, or species, of flowers; (Ķ, TA;) thus
Bays AHn; and in one place he says that alos yl
signifies what are prepared for perfume, of sweet-
smelling flowers ; and sometimes they are of herbs,
or leguminous plants : (TA :) and also sorts, or
species, of a thing [app. of any kind] : (K :) and
,أَقْوَاهِ البُقُولِ and ,هُوَ مِنْ أَفْوَاءِ الطيب ,one says
meaning It is of the sorts, or species, and of the
mixtures, or compounds, of perfume, and of herbs,
or leguminous plants : (Mgh :) but os is not ap-

reveals his hunger ; originally Sú, like as they
said هار and ◌ٌهَائِر . (TA.)

Ķ;) and so does .: (Ķ [in some copies
of which, ',' is strangely put in the place of
مُستَفِيه in the explanation here given]:) or اكول
signifies a man eating vehemently after scantiness,
(§,) or after weakness: (thus in a copy of the
Ș:) and osis is also expl. as meaning a man who
منطيقٌ مفوّه eats rehemently. (TA.) And one says
(Ķ, TA) meaning [Very] eloquent in speech :
(TA:) and مَنْطِقٌّ مُفَوَه (K, TA) Good, or excel-
شَرَابْ مُفَوّه == (.lent, speech, or diction. (TA
means [ Beverage, or wine,] perfumed (K, TA)
with [the odoriferous substances called] 42ti [pl.
ple of قُوه ,q٠٣٠].(TA.) == And ◌ْثَوَّبْ مُفَّوَه (Lth,
K) and She (K) A garment, or piece of cloth,
dyed with ogs [or ijs, i. e. madder]. (Lth, Ķ.)
is a particle governing the gen. case [and
used in the manners and senges expl. in what here
follows]. (T, S, M, Mughnee, Ķ.) __ It relates
to a receptacle; (Sb, S, M ;) and, when used in
a wider sense, to that which has some near re-
semblance thereto ; (Sb, M ;) [i. e.,] and also to
what is considered as a receptacle : (S :) [in other
words,] it denotes inclusion, or inbeing, (Msb,
Mughnee, Ķ, TA,) either in relation to place or
in relation to time; (Mughnce, Ķ, TA;) properly
غُلِبَتِ (.and tropically. (Mab, Mughnee, TA
الرُّومُ فِى أَدْنَى الأَرْضِ وَهُمْ مِنْ بَعْدٍ غَلَبِمْ سَيَغْلِبُونَ

mother] : and ◌ّهُوَفِى الغُل [He is in the shackle
for the neck] : (M:) and ◌ِزَيْدْ فِى الدَّار [Zeyd is

[In him is a fault, or blemish], if relating to a
real , is proper ; and if relating to an ideal i. e. On account, or because, of completing [the

tance, (Mughnee, Ķ,) and (K) in this case
(Mughnee) it is syn. with co. (Mab, Mughnee,
K.) Thus in the phrase, ◌ِقَالَ ادْخُلُوا فِى أَمْم [He
shall say, Enter ye with peoples]. (Msb, Mughnee,
TA,) in the Kur [vii. 36]: (Msb, TA :) or, as
some say, the meaning is, ◌ِفِى جَمَاعَةِ أَمْم [in the
company of peoples]. (Mughnee.) Thus, too, in
فِى أَصْحَابٍ ,[15 .the phrase, in the Kur [xlvi
aJI [With the inmates of Paradise]. (Msb,
TA.) [Or in these and similar instances,
may be rendered, more agreeably with the primary
signification, as meaning Among.] In the Ķ, the
meaning as denoting concomitance and that which
is identical with ¿ are made distinct: and it has
been said that ~ denotes the continuance of con-
comitance and . denotes its commencement ;
though this is not invariably the case. (MF,
TA.) [Hence it is used to denote a combination
طُولْ فِى أَسْتِرْحَآء of two qualities : as in the phrase
+ Length together with laxness: (occurring in the
K voce ◌ْطَنَب :) and ◌ٍسَوَادْ فِى حُمْرَة + Blackness
blending with redness : and the like. And in like
manner it is used to denote the combination of
the length and breadth of a thing: as in the phrase
Ita length is ◌ُولُهُ عِشْرُونَ دِرَاعًا فِى ثَلَاثٍ أَذْرُعِ عَرْضًا
twenty cubits with (or as we say by) three cubrits
in breadth : in which case the number of square
عِشْرُونَ فِى ثَلاث cubits is expressed by the phrase
as though meaning Twenty as a multiplicand with
three as its multiplier ; i. e. twenty multiplied by
three : see yo as signifying "he multiplied."].
- It also denotes the assigning of a cause. (Msb,
فِى أَرْبَعِينَ شّاءٌ Mughnce, K.) Thus in the phrase
possession of ] forty sheep or goats, [the giving of ]

a sheep or goat [for the poor-rate] is incumbent
[on the possessor : or this may be rendered, in
the case of the possession of forty, a sheep or
goat is to be given]. (Msb.) And thus in the
فَذْلِكْنَّ الَّذِى تُمْتُنَّنِى [,92 .saying, [in the Kur xii
[And that is he because of whom ye blamed
me]. (Muglinee.) Thus also in the saying, in a
trad., إنَّ امْرَأَةٌ دَخَلَتِ النَّارَ فِى هِرَّةٍ حَبَسَتْها [Verily
a woman entered the fire of Hell because of a she-
cat which she confined without food]. (Mughnee.)
[And thus in the phrase أسْلَفَ فِى كَذَا Ile paid
in advance, or beforehand, for, or on account of,
such a thing.] __ It also denotes superiority ;
(Mughnee, Ķ, TA ;) i. e. (TA) it is used in the
sense of عَلَى. (T, S, M, Meb, TA.) Thus in
وَلَاَ صَلِيَنَّكُمْ فِى ,[74 .the saying, in the Kur [xx
And I will assuredly crurify you] جُذُوعِ النَّخْلِ
upon the trunhs of palm-trees]. (T, Ş, Meb,
Mughnee, TA.) And so in the verse of 'Antarah
cited voce . (T, M, Mughnee, TA.) And
, نَزَلْتُ فِى أَبِيكَ ,Yoo asserts that the Arabs say
meaning ~ [i. e. I alighted, or descended and
stopped, &c., at the abode of thy father]. (S.)
- It is also syn. with , (T, S, M, Mughnee,
Ķ,) sometimes. (S.) Thus in the saying of
Zeyd-el-Kheyl,

[i. e. And horsemen skilful in piercing the aortas
and the kidneys ride in the day of fear therein].
(Ș, TA.) And thus in a verse cited by Fr,,
is made trans. by فى and ◌ْعَن instead of ب and
is لَمْسَ فِى شَىْءٍ ,T, TA.) [The, also) .عَنْ
sometimes used for ◌ٍلَيْسَ بِشَىْء , meaning It is
nought ; or not of any account or weight ; &c. :

(Mughnee, K.) Thus in the Kur [xiv. 10], I>>
And they put their hands to] أَيْدِيَهُمْ فِى أَقْوَاههم
their mouths]. (Mughnee, TA.) __ It is also syn.
with . (M, Mughnee, Ķ, TA.) Thus in the
Kur [xxvii. 12], ◌ٍفِي تِسْعِ آيَات [Of, or among,
nine signs]. (M, TA.) And in the saying, J.
Take thou for me ten] عَشْرًا مِنَ الإِيِلِ فِيهَا فَحْلَانِ
of the camels; of, or among, them let there be
two stallions. (M, TA.) [Thus too in the say-
ing ◌ِهُوَ فِى أَصْلٍ قَوْمِه He is of, or among, the
purest in race, &c., of his people : and the like
thereof. ] _ It also denotes comparison ; and this
is when it occurs between a preceding [mention of
a] thing excelled and a following [mention of a]
thing excelling: as in the saying, [in the Kur ix.
But] فَمّا مَتَّعُ الْحَيْوَةِ الدُّنْيَا فِى الْآخِرَةِ إِلَّ قَلِيلٌ [,38
the enjoyment of the present life, in comparison
with that which is to come, is no other than little].
(Mughnee, Ķ.) __ It is also used for compen-
sation ; and this is when it is redundant as a
compensation for another [$] which is sup-

compensation : and this El-Farisce allows in a
case of necessity in verse ; citing as an ex.,
أَنَا أَبُو سَعْدٍ إِذَا اللَّيْلُ وَجًا
تَخَالُ فِى سَوَادِهِ يَرَنْدَجَا

[I am Ahoo-Saad; when the night becomes dark,
thou imagining its blackness to be black leather].
(Muglinee.) And it is thus used in the saying,
,أَوْ كَبُوهَا for] وَقَالَ أَرْكّبُوا فِيهَا ,[43 .in the Kur [xi
i. c. And he said, Embark ye therein, the like

as a prefixed noun in the gen. case, syn. with

& is a word expressive of wonder : they say,
Omy wonder! What has] يَا فَيَّ مَا لِى أَفْعَلُ كَذَا
happened to me that I do thus?] : or it is expres-
sive of regret on account of a thing that is passing
away [so that this exclamation may be rendered
Oh! What has happened to me &c.]: Ks says
that it is not to be written with . [though it is so
written in several of the lexicons in art. Le, i. e.
.as first expl] يَا عَجَبِى and that it means ; [فَى:
يَا فَيَ ما ,above] : and in like manner one says
SQLof [O my wonder! What are thy com-
panions? i. e. what manner of men are thy com-
panions? L here denoting interrogation respect-
ing qualities, or attributes ; as in the Kur xxvi.
22]: and he says that \ in this case occupies the
place of a noun in the nom. case. (M, TA.) Ks
is also related to have said that some of the Arabs
express wonder by فى and هى and شَىْء ; and
يَا and يَا هَيَّمَا and يا فيَّمَا some add le, saying
4%, meaning How good, or beautiful, is this !

explaining it as denoting wonder. (TA.)

is quick in respect of anger, quick in respect of
returning, or recovering, therefrom]. (A, TA.)
And ◌ِفَاء إِلَى الأَمْر, and ◌ُفَآه [i.e.َفَاءَ الأَمْر}, inf. n.
and iys, He returned [to the affair, or to
the command, i. e. to that which was commanded].
(M,TA.) ◌ِحَتَّى تَفِىْءَ إِلَى أَمْرِ اللَّه, in the Kur
xlix. 9, means Until it [referring to a party (zigu)
before mentioned] return to the ordinance of God,
or to that which God has commanded : (Bd :) or
until it return (T, Mb) to obedience, (T,) or to
,فَآءَ إِلَى الأَمْرِ that which is right. (Meb.) And
inf. n. : 3, signifies also He reconsidered the
affair, or care. (TA.) - فَآءَ المُؤْلِى (M, Mpb,
K) من أمْرَاتِه, (M, K,) inf. n. : ◌ْفَي , (TA,) or
, (Mab,) means The man who had sworn to
abstain from conjugal intercourse with his wife
expiated his oath and returned to her. (M, Mẹb,"
K. [See Kur ii. 226.]) But MF observes that
this usage of U to signify He expiated an oath
belongs to the conventional language of the law.
(TA.) In the case of a man who has sworn that
he will abstain from conjugal intercourse with his
wife, a period of four months is appointed to him
in the Kur-án; and if he have such intercourse
with her in the four months, it is said of him,
J, meaning He has returned [or reverted]
from his oath, to the doing that which he swore
that he would not do, and is bound to expiate
his oath : if he have not liad such intercourse
with her until the end of the four months from
the day of his swearing, then, Ibn-'Abbas and a
number of the Companions pass upon her a single
sentence of divorce, making the [said sentence of ]
divorce to have effect at the end of the months ;
but many of the Companions and others say that
in this case he must return, and expiate his oath,
or he must divorce. (T, TA.) And [hence] one
says ◌ًلَهُ عَلَى أَمْرَأَتِهِ فَيْئَة He has the right of
returning to his wife: (Msb, TA:) and du":
Y He possesses the right of returning to her ;
namely, a wife whom he has divorced. (A, TA.)
occurs in a trad. as الفَىْء عَلَى ذِى الرَّحِيمِ -
meaning The being favourably inclined, or affec-
tionate, to the relation; and returning to hind
treatment of him. (TA.) ... U said of the shade,
(M, Mub,) aor.(يَفِى, (Msb,) inf. n. : فى, (M, Mub,
Ķ,") It shifted, or removed; (M, Ķ;") or [rather]
it returned from the side of the west to the side of
the east : (Mgb:) and ◌ْتَفَيَّتِ الظَّلَال The shades
became changed in their manner of being ; (S,O;)
or [rather i they returned [towards the east] after
midday. ('T, TA. [See the Kur-án xvi. 50.]) __
, فيّأْت ٧ M ;) and) ; تغيّأت » and ; فَآتِ الشَّجَرَةٌ And
inf. n. 25; (S, O, TA ;) The tree had much
shade. (M,TA.) ◌ُفات الحَدِيدَة The iron imple-

أَفَ اَللَّهُ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ ,Hence,] one says] -
ubi Ju [ God restored to the Muslims, as though
it were theirs by right, or gave to them as spoil,
the property, or wealth, of the unbelievers]; (S,
أَنَّ اللّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ And (.؟). إنّاءةً .inf. n (;0
Still [ God restored, or gave, to them the spoils].
And أَفَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ فَيْهًّا He took for a party the
spoil of another party and brought it to them :
and he tooh for a party spoil that had been taken

I turned him to the thing, or أَفَأَتُ قُلَانًا عَلَى الأَمْرِ

the end. _ G5 means He shaded himself in
it; i. e., in the shade termed . . (M.). One
says, ◌ِتَفَيَّأَتُ فِى فَىْ الشَّجَرَة [I shaded myself in
the afternoon-shade of the tree]. ($, O.) And Çu
EL [ He shaded himself by means of the tree ;
or] he entered into the "[fl [or afternoon-shades]
of the tres : (MA:) and [it is said that] St
" Es signifies I entered into the Wi of the tree,
and shaded myself thereby : (Har p. 500:) and
Aboo-Temmám has made it trans. by itself [i. e.
without a prep.] in his saying,
فَتَفَيَّْتُ عِلَّهُ مَهْدُورًا
.
[as though meaning And I protected myself from
the sun by its shade, when it was extended] : but
[perhaps he has thus used the verb in the last of
the senses here following, for] it is said that this
is irregular. (TA.) [Hence] one saya, Sus
meaning $ I have had recourse to thes for
protection. (A, TA.) _ QU is said of a branch
or twig [as meaning It bent, in a languid
manner]. (T, M, L, Ķ, voce 31;3; &c.) And
one says, تفيّات لزوجها, meaning She bent herself
over her husband, and affected languor, or lan-
guidness, to him, feigning coyness, or opposition,
and threw herself upon him: (T, TA :) from
signifying "the act of returning:" and الفَىْء
some say SQ, with 3; but Az says that this
is a mistake, and that it is correctly with J.
(TA.) - Qu signifies also ¿ [He sought a
jeg [app. meaning Such a one seeks after
news, or tidings, time after time, or repeatedly,
&c.]. (A, TA.)

such as is obtained from the believers in a plurality

restored [as though it were theirs of right] to the
people of his religion, of the possessions of those
who have opposed them, without fighting, either
by the latter's quitting their homes and leaving
them vacant to the Muslims, or by their making
peace on the condition of paying a poll-tax or
other money or property to save themselves from

Bise [or kite], that seizes as its prey the chickens
