The best kind is called (.فرق .K in art). تَرَابِيقٌ
تِرْيَاقٌ vulgarly (,فرق K in art) , التِّرْيَاقُ الفَارُوقُّ
TA in that art.) [A principal ingredient). فَارُوقِىّ
of this kind is the best sort of Jews-pitch, i. e.
asphaltum, also called mumia, and in Arabic
Lo .: ) (sce De Sacy's " Rel. de l'Égypte par Abd-
allatif," p. 274:) and this mumia, by itself, is
called ◌ُّالتّرْيَاقُ التُّرْكِى.] -[It is sometimes ap-
plied to Treacle, as meaning the sirop that drains
from sugar.] It is also said to be applied to the
.مسوس or Bezoar-stone], likewise termed] فَادْزهر
(TA in art. مس.) _ Also, and * ترياقة,+ Wine ;
(§, O,Ķ;) because it dispels anxiety; (§;) or
because it is a remedy for anxieties; (O;) where-

(Jel,) is an instance of the verb incaning leaving

his right, or due, or claim, to be null, or he rejected
it, and such as ◌ِتَرَكَ رَكْعَةٌ مِنَ الصَّلاة , meaning
He neyleeted, omitted, or left unperformed, a

das, of the prayer, [it is said (but I think it
doubtful) that] the verb, having an ideal substan-
tive for its objective complement, is used meta-
مَا means قَالَ فِيهٍ فَمَا أَتَّرْكَ) (.phorically. (Meb
E Jj3 [i. e. He strove, laboured, or exerted
himself, (1,) in it, and neglected not, or
omitted not, anything in his power]: the verb is
مَنْ أَوْصَى بِالثُّلُثِ وَلَمْ (.؟). اِنْتَعَلّ of the mensure
ولم or,ولم يَتَّرُكْ شَيًّا is a mistake for بَتَّرِكُ شَيْئًا
JE without Es, or Diffus; for this verb is
not trans., except, sometimes, in poetry; and the
meaning is, وَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ فِيمَا أَذِنَ لَهُ فِيهِ شَيْئًا [i.e. He
who bequeaths the third of his property, and does
not omit anything of what he is allowed (to leave,
or anything of the third part, for this is all that
he is allowed to bequcath)]: it is from the saying
He did such a thing, and neglected] فَعَلَ فَمَا آتَّرَكَ﴾

action - that has como at last to a certain state,

Je, as syn. with asj, He left, forsooh, relin-
quished, abandoned, &c., him or it; and thus it
may often be well rendered: but it properly sig-
nifies he left him, forsooh him, &c., being left,
&c., by him; whence it is said in the Mgh, in
art. ودع, that ◌ٌمُوَادَعَة is syn. with ◌ٌمُصَالّحَة because
it is a,E .: Golius, as on the authority of Ibn-
Maproof, explains as,U as signifying he dismissed
him, and did not molest him : he left him unmo-
lested is one of its meanings, but is not the
primary signification : accord. to the TK, as,C.
signifies the leaving, &c., anything in the state in
which it is : and the leaving, &c., one another].
One says also, ؟), تَارَكْتُهُ البيع, Mgh, but in the
,وَغَيْرَهُ (وفِى البيع and in the TA ,تَارَكَهُ latter
(Mgh,) inf. n. is,Ko, ($,) [app. meaning I
Bk. I.

confirmed : Golius, as on the authority of J, who
has not explained it, says that it means I relin-
quished to him the merchandise, or commodity;

(Mgh,) They relinquished [concurrently], one
with another, the affair that was between them.

originally means an ostrich's egg, and is here
used metaphorically ; for the ostrich lays but one
egg in the year, and then leaves it and goes
away : (TA :) Z says, in the Faik, that it is thus
related, with the , quiescent; (Nh, O, TA ;) but
it would be a proper way if it were with kesr
to the ], [' Zes,] as meaning the thing that
he had left, or forsaken, &c. (Nh, O, K.)

(Mşb.)
Dis an imperative verbal noun, meaning 3,5l

this is only when it is used as a prefixed noun,

signifies a raceme (>) when what was upon

of dates (Ssc) that has had what was upon it
shahen off, (K, TA,) so that nothing remains

is said in a trad., ◌ِإنَّ لِلّهِ تَرَائِلَكَ فِى خَلْقِه, meaning
[Verily to God are referrible] conditions which
He hath perpetuated in mankind, of hope and
heedlessness, so that they apply themselves thereby
with boldness, forwardness, presumptnousness, or
arrogance, to the things of the present world.

perative to be JI, which is not said; and this,
he states, is right : [for] J says that the impera-
tive used is & [ Fear thou, or beware thou, &c.],
as in i & [ Fear thou God] ; and to a woman,
-without tcsh ,اتّقَى formed from the verb ; تَقِى

but this is a mistake [if meant as an explanation
of the proper application], for with the Arabs it
signifies a natural hill: En-Nadr says that it is
of the smaller sort of As! [pl. of a Si]; it is
of the height of a house, or tent, and the breadth
of its buch is about ten cubits; it is smaller than
the a'si, has fewer stones, gives growth to nothing
good, and its stones arc compacted together cractly

by its being said,] the Jf of dust, or carth, is

nifications, ($, Ķ,) accord. to AO: ($:) or it
has not these significations, but means a water-
course from the upper part of a valley to its
lower part; therefore sometimes its upper part
is described [by this name], and sometimes itx
lower part: (IAar, IB, TA:) or it has the second
of the significations above, (Msb, K,) and the
nifies one who has only one parent there: (Mgh, first, (K,) and signifies also a water-course (Mab,
from the Tekmileh [of the 'Eyn]:) the fem. is

It is related in a trad. of Shureyh, that a man
purchased a female slave, and the two parties
made it a condition that she should be a Ngo;
but the purchaser found her to be a cost, and
therefore returned her : (S, Mgh :) a ange is
like a >yG, i. e. born at thine own abode, or
home; ($;) or born in the territory of the Mus-
lims. (Mgh.) ___ Also, metaphorically, 1 A child,
absolutely. (Har p. 317.)
with 8; (S;) signifying a female slave who is also, (K,) or, accord. to IDrd, (TA,) the wide
part of the mouth of a valley : and a high, or un
elevated, piece of laud or ground: (IDrd, Ķ :)

it is also said to signify high, or elevated, and
rugged, land or grouud, in which the torrent goes
to and fro, and from which it then pours to
another axl, lower than it; aud which is fertile

course from the higher part of the ground to the
bottom of a valley : (AA, Ş:) pl. ¿ JU (AA, Ş,
Msh, K) and SWIG: (K:) and, (K,) or, accordl.
to Sh, ('TA,) & signifies water-courses flowing
from acclivitics and the [cwinenees termed] ;
and the mountains, uutil they pour into the valley:
(Sh, K:) to which Sh adds, the art of the moun-
tain being formed by the water's coming and fur-
rowing und excavating it until it escapes from it :
(TA :) but &) are uowhere except [the word
صَحَارَى has been dropped in the CK] in the إلّ
[or deserts]; (Sli, K;) and sometimes a dal comes
sce: تَالِدٌ بَالِدً -. in four places ,تلاد sce: تَالِدَ
art. el.
from a distance of five leagues (juls) to the
valley; and when it flows from the mountains, and
falls into the Solo [or deserts], it excavates
in three ,تلاو Bec : أَتْلَاو by some written , إِثْلَاد
places.
iu them what resembles a mont : when it becomes
so large as to be like the half, or two thirds, of
the valley, it is termed Uno: (Sh, TA:) &G is
((رَحْبَةً or رَحَبَةَ.i.c] رحبة ulso said to be like
app. as meaning the part of a valley in which its
water flows into it from its two sides]; and the
pl. [or rather coll. gen. n.] is said to be ¿i.
فَيَجِىْءٌ مَطَرْ لَا يَمْتَنِعُ ,.TA.) It is snid in a trad)
asti ¿55 di. [And a rain will come, in conse-
queuce of which the end of a water-course will
not be impeded]: meaning to denote its abundance,
مَا ذَا رُزِينَا مِنْكِ أُمَّ مَعْبَدٍ

مِنْ سَعَّةِ العِلْمِ وَخُلُقٍ مُتْلَد
and that no place will be exempt from it. (TA.)
And in a prov., ◌ٍفُلَانْ لَا يَمْنَعُ ذَنَبَ تَلْعَة [Such
a one will not impede the end of a water-course]:

لَا أَثِقُ بِسَهْلِ تَلْعَتِكَ (,K.) And in another, (ISh)
[I do not, or will not, trust in the flow of thy
water-course] : applied to him in whoni one docs
not trust : (ISI, Ķ :) i. e. I do not, or will not,
trust in what thou sayest, and what thou addueest:
characterizing the person as a liar. (ISlı.) And
مَا أَخَافُ إِلَّ مِنْ سَيْلٍ تَلْعَتِى (,in another, (IAar
[I fear not suve from the flom of my water-
course] : i. e., from the sons of my uncle, and my
relations : (IAar, K :) for he who descends the
water-course is in danger : if the torrent come, it
sweeps him away. (IAar.)

T, TA) Verily, from the being near) القَرَفِ التَّلَفُ
to pestilence, or epidemic disease, there results
death, or perdition. (T.) And in a prov., Liên
AG [The paying for a thing beforehand is a
cause of perishing to one's property ]. (TA.)
And one says, وَهَبَتْ نَفْسُهُ تَلَفًا and ؟) وطّلَفًا,K))
both meaning the same, ($,) His blood went for
nothing, or as a thing of no account, unretaliated,
and uncompensated by a mulct. (8, Ķ.)

Jye., (K, and Har ubi suprà,) meaning A man
of courage and liberality, who makes what he
tukes as spoil, of the property of his enemies, to
supply the place of that which he consumes by
expenditure to satisfy the claims of his friends.

the utmost point, or degree, in every respect : or,
as Ibn-El-Kemal says, when one says of a thing

[whence, probably,] ◌ُتَّ الشَّيْء [as meaning] The
thing became strong and hard. (Msb.) And
M,K,) The) وأتم٧ّ Meb,) or ,؟,T) , قَّ القَمَرُ
moon became full, so that it shone brightly. (M,
تَمَّتْ أیامُ حَمْلها ,K.) And, of her who is pregnant

nence or nobility, or the means of acquiring

persevered in refusal, or dislike, or disapproval.

Bay, ◌َتَمَّمَ الكَسْرَ فَتَمْم and تَتَّمَّمَا [He, or it, com-
pleted the fracture, or crached the broken bone,
or the bone, and it crached, &c.]. (M.) And
i. e. [Such a one limped, or , ظَلَعَ فُلَانْ ثُمَّ تَتَمَّمَا
halted, or was slightly lame : then] his lameness
became complete by fracture : from ~ signifying
"it was broken:" (T:) [or 25 signifies his
lameness became complete by an increased frac-
ture, after he had had a fracture with which he
was able to walk : this is what is meant by the
التََّّجُّمُ مَنْ كَانَ بِهِ [: following loose explanation
,K. [In the CK). كَسْرْ يَمْشِى بِهِ ثَمَّ أَبَتْ فَتَتَجَّمْ
تمّم = ([.أبتّ is here erroneously put for أَبْت
((K) ,تَّمِيمَة Th, M,) or a) , تَمَائِم He hung المُوُلُودَ
upon the new-born child, or young infant. (Th,

Muslim]: applied to the case of a man to whom
