501 RIYĀD AL-ȘĀLIĶĪN Commentary The extended shade of the trees of Paradise should serve to encourage people to live such lives in this world which will make them eligible to be from its inhabitants. Abū Sa'id al-Khudrī 4% narrates that the Messenger of Allah said: "The people of Paradise will look up at the people in apartments above them just as you look at a glittering star moving on the horizon from the east or the west because of the difference in rank between them." The Sahābah said: "O Messenger of Allah! Will those be the ranks of the Messengers which only they will attain?" He said: "No, by the oath of that Being in whose control is my life, they are people who believed in Allah and accepted the Messengers." (Bukhārī, Muslim) Commentary This hadith explains that the distance between any particular group in Paradise and those above them will be like the distance between the earth and the sky. Abū Hurayrah 4% narrates that the Messenger of Allah said: "The length of a bow in Paradise is better than everything upon which the sun rises or sets." (Bukhārī) Commentary The smallest space or object in Paradise is far superior to the entire world because the former is eternal and everlasting while the latter is transient. . Anas dog narrates that the Messenger of Allah said: "There is a market- place in Paradise to which the people will go every Jumu ah. The northerly wind will blow, brushing over their faces and clothes causing their beauty and handsomeness to increase. They will return to their families with increased beauty and handsomeness. Their families will say to them: 'By Allāh, you have become more beautiful and handsome.' They will reply: 'By Allah, you have also become more beautiful and handsome since we left." (Muslim) Commentary This hadith describes the fragrant breeze that will aromatise the inhabitants of Paradise. It also indicates to the mutual love and joy that will exist between families in Paradise. The northerly wind has been mentioned because it generally brings rain to the Arab lands. Scholars state that just as the women of Paradise will not go to the market places of Paradise, they should also not go to the shopping malls, bazaars and markets in this world, except due to necessity. Sahl ibn Sa'd dog narrates that the Messenger of Allah said: "The people of Paradise will look at the upper apartments of Paradise just as you look at the stars in the sky." Sahl ibn Sa'd dog narrates: "I was present in a gathering of the Messenger of Allāh in which he described Paradise. Towards the end of his discussion, he said: 'In it is what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no heart of man has imagined.' He then recited: 'Their sides remain away from their sleeping places, calling on their Sustainer with fear and longing. And they spend out of what We provided for them. No soul knows what pleasures are hidden for him as a reward for the deed he carried out." (Sūrah al-Sajdah, 16-17) (Bukhārī, Muslim) Commentary This hadith explains that one of the many rewards of performing Tahajjud Salah is that one will be greatly rewarded in Paradise. Scholars state that this hadith proves that ahadith are a commentary of the Qur'an. In other words, the Qur'an can only be correctly understood by a sound understanding of the ahadith. Abū Sa īd al-Khudrī 4% and Abu Hurayrah & narrate that the Messenger of Allāh said: "When the people of Paradise enter Paradise, an announcer will proclaim: 'You will live and never die. You will be healthy and never fall ill. You will be young and never grow old. You will have bounties and never experience misery." (Muslim) Commentary Unlike this worldly life, the bounties and pleasures of Paradise will be perpetual and everlasting. There will be no suffering or hardship of any sort, in accordance with the Qur'anic verse, 504 RIYĀD AL-ȘĀLIĶĪN ﴿ لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيْهَا نَصَبٌ وَّمَا هُمْ مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِيْنَ ﴾ No difficulty shall afflict them there, neither will they be removed from there. Abū Hurayrah 4% narrates that the Messenger of Allah said: "Allah &s will say to the one with the lowest rank in Paradise: 'Make a wish.' He will wish and wish.' He will then ask him: 'Have you wished?' He will reply: 'Yes.' He will say to him: 'You have whatever you wished for and the like thereof."" Abū Sa'īd al-Khudrī & narrates that the Messenger of Allah said: “Allāh des will say to the inhabitants of Paradise: 'O inhabitants of Paradise!' They will reply: 'We are at your service, O our Sustainer, and we are pleased to be here. All good is in Your control.' Allah will ask: 'Are you pleased?' They will reply: 'O our Sustainer! Why should we not be pleased when You have given us what You have not given any of Your creation ?! ' Allah will ask: 'Should I not give you something better than that?' They will ask: 'What could be better than that?' Allah will say: 'I bestow My pleasure upon you after which I will never be angry with you."" Jarīr ibn 'Abdillah 4% narrates: "We were once with the Messenger of Allah as he looked at the full moon. He said: 'You will see your Sustainer in person just as you are seeing this moon. Your view of Him will not be impeded." (Bukhārī, Muslim, Ahmad, Tirmidhī) Commentary The sight of Allah &s has been compared to the full moon because of the absolute certainty of the sighting as well as the ease with which it will happen. Șuhayb &os narrates that the Messenger of Allah said: "When the people of Paradise enter Paradise, Allah will ask them: 'Do you desire that I give you anything more?' They will reply: 'Have You not illuminated our faces? Have You not admitted us into Paradise and saved us from the Hell-fire?' The veil will then be lifted and they will not have been given anything that was more beloved to them than seeing their Sustainer." (Muslim, Hakim) Commentary This hadith is supported by the Qur'anic verse, ﴿ وُجُوْهٌ يَّوْمَئِذٍ نَاضِرَةٌ إِلَى رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ ﴾ Many faces on that day will be resplendent looking at their Sustainer. (Sūrah Qiyāmah, 22-23) O Allah, grant us the good fortune of viewing Your blessed countenance, O Most Merciful of those who show mercy! قال مؤلفُهُ: فَرَغْتُ مِنْهُ يَوْمَ الإِثْنَيْنِ رَابِعَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ سَنَةَ سَبْعِينَ وَسِتِّمِئَةٍ بِدِ مشق "Surely those who have īman and do good deeds, their Sustainer shall guide them because of their īman. They shall have rivers flowing beneath them in gardens of bliss. Their supplication there shall be, 'O Allah, You are Pure!' Their greeting will be salam and the end of their supplication shall be, 'All praise belongs to Allāh, the Sustainer of the universe." (Sūrah Yunus, 9-10) All praise is due to Allah who guided us to this and we would not have been guided if Allah had not guided us. O Allah! Send salutations upon Muhammad, Your servant and Messenger, the unlettered, and the family, wives and offspring of Muhammad as You sent salutations upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Bless Muhammad, the unlettered, and the family, wives and offspring of Muhammad as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim in the worlds. Surely You are worthy of all praise, all majestic.
