app. relying upon the correctness of a modern

these forms authorized by the Koofees, (TA,) A
wild ass : (ISk, T, S, M, O, Ķ:) or a youthful
wild ass : (M, Ķ :) but the absolute [i. e. the
former] meaning is that which is commonly
known: (TA:) pl. (of mult., TA) fis (T, S, M,
O, Ķ) and (of pauc., TA) :1,31. (M, Ķ.) Hence
the saying, كُلُّ الصَّيْدِ فِى جَوْفٍ الفرا [Every kind
of game is in the belly (or might enter into the
belly) of the wild ass]; (T, S, M, O, Ķ ;) mean-
ing that every kind of game is inferior to the
wild ass : (T, O, Ķ :) a prov., (T, S, M, Ķ,) and
therefore [the last word is] without hemz, on
account of the final pause; (Ķ ;) but some write
it with hemz: (TA :) it is said to have originated
from the fact that three men went forth to hunt ;
and one caught a hare; and another, a gazelle;
and the third, a wild as8; and the first and second
boasted against the third, who thereupon said #8
above: it is applied to him who cxcels his fellows :
(Meyd:) or to a man who is, with respect to
other men, as the wild ass with respect to other
kinds of game : or to the case of a man who,
having several wants, one of which is a great
one, accomplishes that great want, and cares not

when his affair has been endangered and he has
seen what he does not like; and it means we
have wasted our precaution, and the affair has

like ◌ْغِرْبَان [pl. of ◌ٌغُرَاب], when ◌ٌقُرَات is pluralized,
but this is rarely the case. (Mab.) - ◌ُالفُرَآت Big -
nifies also [The Euphrates; ] the river of El-
Kuofch ; (S, Mgh, O,' K ;") a great, celebrated
river, which issues from the limits of Er-Room,
then passes by the borders of Syria f.c., and, after
meeting with the Tigris, forms therewith one river,
und pours forth into the Sca [or Gulf] of Persia.

signifies ◌ِشقَّقَ كَلَامَهُ وَاَهْتَمَشَ فِيه [app. meaning
Hle uttered, or endeavoured with repeated efforts
to utter, his speech in the best mauner, aud pro-
cecded slowly therein] : (T, K," TA :) in the copies
of the K, اهتمس, with the unpointed س, is put for
which is the right reading. (TA.)_And ,اهتمش
HIe went along with short steps. (K.) =And Ile
(a man) became angry, and in a state of excite-
ment : from what here follows [and therefore,

(Ez-Zuhree, As, Ş,) i. e. [They shall not leave]
one who is burdened, or burdened heavily, or over-
burdened, by debt, [until they aid him to acquit
himself of what has become incumbent on him, of
a bloodwit or a ransom,] meaning that his debt
shall be paid for him from the treasury of the
state : so says Aş; and he disallowed the saying

heart being likened to a young bird in the egg.

TA :) and one says, لِيُفْرِحْ رَوْعُك I Let thy fright,
or fear, depart; like as the young bird goes forth

افرخ القَوْمُ ـــ (L) فرخ A, L,K;) as also
open, (S, L, K,) or man, (88 in some copies
of the K,) meaning ! The people, or party, dis-
closed their secret, (S, L, Ķ, TA,) is said of those
whose case has become apparent. (L.) [Hence it
seems that الفرخ البيضة properly signifies It (8
bird) hatched the egg, and produced the young
bird] ◌َأفرخ رَوْعَك ICalm thy mind, (S, L, K, TA,)
is a prov., mentioned by Az, from A'Obeyd, as
said, on occasions of fear, to him who is cowardly.
(L, TA.) And we, i means + He prayed for
him that his fright, or fear, might become calmed,

any creature that lays eggs : (Mẹb :) fem. with 5:

or a branch of a tree: or, as some say, a branch
that is in the middle of a tree : (Ham p. 347:) or
[its pl.] by signifies offsets, or shoots, from the
roots or stems of trees : (A :) and this is also said
to signify worms that are in herbs. (Ham p. 491.)

relation to الفريخ, a certain blacksmith in the
Time of Iguorance : (TA :) or الفريخ was a man
who used, in the Time of Ignorance, to pare, or
shape, arrows: (§:) mentioned by a poet in thic
saying,
وَمَقْذُوذَيْنِ مِنْ بَرْي الفُرَيْخِ

[And two feathered arrows of the paring, or
shaping, of El-Fureykh]. ($, TA.) [Freytag
mentions فرضى, as applied to an arrow, meaning
"ad virum ¿l' appellatum referendus :" but he
names no authority: and it has been shown above
that the name of the man is without teshdeed;
and so, therefore, is its rel. n.]

grain has become organized and compact : occur-

,لَا تُعَدُّ فَارِدَتُكُم٧ْ ,.A.) And it is said in a trad)
meaning Your eme, or she-goat, that ye have set
apart from the flock, or herd, that ye may milk
her in the tent, or house, shall not be reckoned
[among those for which ye are to pay the poor-
rute]: (A :) or the meaning is, what is over and
above the Laws [or fixed number of camels, &c.,
to be given in payment of the poor-rate] shall not
be added to the latter and reckoned therewith.
,لَا يَغُلُّ فَارِوَتُكُمْ ,L) And in another it is said)

stars with alas; so called because situate apart

in the hinder part of the neck of الشَّجَاع [the con-
stellation Hydra ; which star is also called

termed bom, not patched, nor having a second
sole added to it; (K;) a sandal having a single
sole ; not having a sole composed of two pieces of
leather sered together, one beneath the other ; thus
in the saying,

یَا خَيْرَ مَنْ يَمْشِی بِنَعْلٍ فَرْدِ

[O best of such as walk with a single-soled sandal],
meaning O best of the great men of the Arabs;
for sandals were worn by the Arabs, exclusively
of the forcigners ; and thin sandals, only by the

he would abstain from his wife for four months,
and then divorced her: for the period during
which a woman may be taken back after a [first
or second] divorce is that of three menstruations
or three periods of purity from menstruation; and
if it ended in this case before the end of the four
months during which he swore to abstain from
her, she became separated from him by that
divorcement : so he likened the two periods to

And وافترش ٧ ذِرَاعَيْه (A, TA,) and يَدَيْه, (TA,)
IIe (a lion, and a wolf, and a dog, TA, or n
beast of prey, A, TA) spread his fore legs upon
the ground : (TA :) and the former phrase, he (a
man, Msb, TA) spread his fore arms upon the
ground, (S, Ķ, TA,) in the same manner, not
raising them from the ground; the doing of
which in prostrating oneself in prayer, is for-
bidden: (TA:) or laid his fore arms upon the
ground (Mgh, Msb) like a bed for himself. (Mgb.)

L, and by the phrase مَفْرُوشَةُ الرِّجْل mentioned in
the S and O and TA,] in the hind leg of a camel
[and of a horse as is shown by the explanation
above mentioned of slot] signifies The being a
little expanded; which is approved : ($, O, Ķ :)
when the width [between the shanks] is immode-
rate, so that the hock-joints knock together, which
state is termed ◌ْعَقَل [inf. n. of ◌َعَقِل], it is dis-
approved : or, as some say, it signifies its not

ferred upon you favour, or kindness]: but MF
deems this strange. (TA.) You say also, ,

or case, or affair; [and 80 أَقْرَشْتُهُ " أَمْرِى ;(see
an ex. voce ◌ْبَاطِن ;)] syn. ◌ُبَسَطْتُهُ لَه . (A.) [And
agreeably with this explanation, probably, the
saying of 'Alee mentioned above should be reu-

mentioned by Freytag in his Lexicon, but with-
out any indication of the authority,) meaning,
t he threw him down (namely a beast) for slaugh-
ter :(see ◌ُفَرْش ,below :)] and * ◌ُافترشه I he pros-
trated him, and got upon him : (A :) or the over-
came him, (meaning another man,) and prostrated
him, (O, Ķ, TA,) and got upon him. (TA.)_
means Ile, فَرْشٌ .nor." and - , inf. n, فَرَشَ المَكَانَ
spread the place [ with carpets or the like]; as also
, فرّش ٢ الدَّارَ Meb.) And). فرّشهُ ٢ and ,افرشهُ ٢
inf. n. ◌َتَفْرِيش,He paved the house; (Lth, S, K;)
he spread in the house baked bricks, or broad and
thin stones. (Az, TA.) - ◌َهُذَا فِرَاشْ يَغْرُشُك [This
ix a bed sufficiently large for thee] is like the say-
ing ◌َهُذِهِ شَمْلَةٌ تَشْمَدُك i. e. ◌َتَسَعُك. (TA in art.
HIe desired, and [فَرَشَ.app] فرش عَنْهُ = (.شمل
prepared himself for, it, or him. (TA.) = And
(,O, K, TA) , فَوْش .nor.2 , (O, TA,) inf. n , فَرْشَ
He lied : (O, K,* TA :) one says, ◌ُكَمْ تَفْرُس i. e.
[ How long] wilt thou lie? (O, TA.)

is also like the former [in signification]. (TA.)

and تفرّش ; (S, A, K;) : The bird expanded
عَلَى شَىْءٌ (,and flapped its wings, (S, A, K,"TA
over a thing, (A, Ķ, TA,) without alighting : (A,
TA :) and " the latter verb, it (a young locust)
spread its wings. (Mgh.)

As [an inf. n. of 1, q.v. passim. __ Also,
used in the sense of a pass. part. n. in which the
quality of a subst. is predominant,] What is
spread, of household furniture, (S, Ķ,) [such as
carpets and mattresses and the like. See also
ffs.] - [ Secd-produce when it spreads itself
($, Ķ, TA) upon the ground : (TA :) in [some
of ] the copies of the K, instead of 3 151, which
is the right reading, we find 43 131: accord. to
some, the word signifies seed-produce when it has
become three-leaved, or four-leaved. (TA.) __ +A
place abounding with plants or herbage. (O, Ķ.)
- ¿ A wide, or spacious, plain, or tract of land,
or place : (S, Ķ, TA :) or land that is pluin, or
even, and soft, and unobstructed by mountains :
(TA:) or a depressed tract of land in which are
trees of the hinds called bije and _L., (IAar, O,)
which cause the mouths of the camels that eat
them to become relaxed. (O.) [Hence, app., the
saying,] ◌ِمِنَ العَرْشِ إلَى الفَرْش, meaning, [From
the highest sphere, or the empyrean, to] the earth.
(A in art. f.) __ t A collection of trees of the
kind called olas : and a round plot of trees of
the kind called طَلْح . (TA.) -1 Shrubs, or
small trees : (Ltb, A, Ķ :) and small fire-wood.
(Ltlı, K.) - 1 Young camels; or the young of
camels ; (Fr, S, A," K;) and " فَرِيش is said to
have this meaning; but accord. to Aboo-Bekr,
erroneously : (TA :) so the former signifies in
the Kur vi. 143: ($, Ķ :) Fr says, I have heard
no pl. of it : and he adds, that it may here be an
inf. n. used as a subst., from the saying, 20 55
see 1 :] (S, TA:) but it]: بَنَّهَا بَثّ ,meaning, فَرْشًا
is said in the K that in all of the above-mentioned
senses that are assigned to it in that work, it has
no sing .; meaning that it is used alike as sing.
and pl .: (TA :) and bulls or cows : and sheep or
goats : (Ķ :) so accord. to some of the expositors
of the Kur: (TA :) and such as are fit for nothing
but slaughter, (K, TA,) of camels, and of bulls or
cows, and of sheep or goats ; as some say : (TA :)
or such as is throwon down (َيُفْرَّش , i.e.,ويُلْقَى) fur
slaughter, of the young of camels, and bulls or
cows, and sheep or goats; used alike as sing.
and pl .: (Mgh:) and فَرْش الإبل also signifies
old camels. (Th, TA.)

the distance [of the journey] of a day und a night,
and the like thereof, and only in land that is wide

flame of a lamp &c .; ] the flying things (S, TA)
that fall one after another into the lamp, or lighted
wick, (Ş, Ķ, TA,) to burn themselves : ('TA :) [and
accord. to modern usage, butterflies also:] a pl.,
[or rather a coll. gen. n., ] of which the sing. [or
n. un.] is with õ: ($, K :) the former mentioned
in the Kur ci. 3: (TA :) or the former signifies
what one sces, resembling small gnats, falling, one
after another, into the fire : (Zj :) or young locusts,
when their wings grow, (Fr, Mgh, Jel,) and they
spreud them furth, (Mgh,) and mount, one upon
another : (Fr, Mgh:) and silk-worms; app. so
called because they become like these when they
come forth from the cocoon. (Mgh.) It is said
in a prov., أَطْيَشُ مِنْ قَرَاشَةٍ ٧ [More light, or un-
steady, or light-witted, than a moth that flies into

meaning The child is for ,لِنْفِرَاشِ وَلِلْعَاهِرِ الحَجَرُ
the husband; (Er-Raghib, TA ;) or for the master
of the bed, who is the husband, or the owner of the
moman; (Mgh, TA ;) or for the bed, so that there
is no ellipsis; (TA;) and for the adulterer, or
fornicator, shall be stones, like as you say he
shall have dust, meaning, nothing ; i. e., he shall
have no right of relationship; or, accord. to some,
stoning. (Mgh.) [See also yle.] __ + The nest
of a bird. (O, Ķ,* TA.) - + A house, or tent.
(AA.) - And ◌ُالفِرّاس significs The place against
which the tongue goes in the furthest, or innermost,
part of the mouth; (AA, O, Ķ, TA ;) or, as some
say, in the lower part of the die [which word
app. here, as it often does, mcaus the palate]: or
الجِدْدَةُ) signifies the portion of shin فِرَاشُ اللِّسَانِ
[to which is here added .CJI, app. a mistranscrip-
tion which I am unable to rectify,] that covers the
bases of the upper teeth. (TA. [In the TA voce
([.الفِرَاشَةُ it is written ,٩٠٧٠ , حور .in art ,مَحَارَةٌ
being likened to the als of the lamp, in respect
of lightness, or unsteadiness, and contemptible-
ness. (A," TA.) = Also Thin pieces of bone, such
as fly off from any bone when it is struch : or any
crusts, or coverings, that are upon bone, exclusive
of the flesh : or thic bone of the eyebrow : or what
is thin, of the bone of the head: or the bones that
come forth from the head of a man when it is
broken : (TA:) or ◌ِقَرَاشُ الرَّأَس significs certain
thin bones that are next to the bone that covers
the brain : (S, TA:) and abis, any thin bone:

pieces of bone, of the head, such as fly off in con-
قَرَاشُ الظّهرِ ,sequence of a blow. (TA.) _ Also
The place where the upper parts of the ribs are
infixed in [the spine uf ] the back. (TA.) __ And
The two extremities of the haunches, in [or الفَرَاشَانِ
at] the õ,", q. v. (TA.) __ And The parts of the
upper portions (835s) of the two shoulder blades that
rise towards the base of the neck and the even part
of the back. (AO,O.) ___ And Tro veins, green, or
of a dark, or an ashy, dust-colour, (Sf & Li,)
beneath the tongue. (En-Nadr, O, Ķ .* [In the
last of these, this signification and the next are
erroneously assigned to the sing. word. Sce also
-En) ,قَرَائًا اللَّجَامِ Also, (TA,) or - ([. الفِرَاشُ
Nadr, O,) or فَرَاشْتَاهُ ٢ , (IDrd in his Book on the
Saddle and Bridle,) The tro iron things with
which are made fast the check-straps of the head-
قَرَاشَةً and فراش stall. (En-Nadr, O, K.)_ And
also signify The edge of anything. (Aboo-Sa'ecd,
Jeys A plant, or herbage, that becomes spread
upon the ground, not standing up upon a stem.
(TA.) [Scc also ◌ْمُفَرِّش.] - And + A girl, or
young woman, compressed by a man; (O, Ķ ;* )
an instance of ◌ٌفعيل from ◌َافْتَعَل ; (O;) [being
from ◌َافْتَرَش ;] but not heard by Az on any other
authority than that of Lth. (TA.) __ And + An
Arabian Bull [or perhaps it is properly an epithet
applied to that animal as meaning] having no
hump : (TA :) [see also . as applied to a
camel :] or فراش, which is pl. of ◌ْفَرِيش , signifies
a sort of oxen, between the wh's and yle, having
small humps, and their ~Lel [a mistranscription
for أغْبَاب , i. e. denlaps, pl. of ◌ْغَيَب,] are flaccid,
or pendulous. (TA vocc ◌ٌدَرَبَانِيَة.) - Also IA
marc, (As, O, Ķ,) or any solid-hoofed animal,
(S,) seven days, (Aş, S, Ķ,) or seren nights, (O,)
after her having foaled ; (As, $, O, Ķ, TA ;)
which is the best of times for putting a burden
upon her : (O, Ķ:) and that has recently brought
forth ; (O, Ķ, TA ;) so says Kt ; like the
of women ; or like the Same of she-camels : (TA:)
pl. ◌ُ؟). فَرَائِش,O , K) _ See also ◌ْقَرْش ,latter

has dried, after the water, upon the ground. (S,
O, Ķ.)- And it is said to signify A little water
in pools left hy torrents : n. un. Eis [q. v.].

surfuce of [the beverage called] Je : ($, O, Ķ :)
and likewise of the water of sweat: (S," L :) or
فَرَاشُ قُفْلٍ = (a little seat : so says IAar. (L
signifies The Us [or catches] of a lock ; [app.
meaning the little pins which fall into correspond-
ing holes in the bolt of the Arabian wooden loch of
a door, (which see figured and described in the
Introduction to my work on the Modern Egyp-
tians,) when it is pushed into the hole or staple of
the door-post, preventing its being drawn back
until they are raised by the key, which has small
pins, made to correspond with the holes, so that,
being introduced into these, they push up the catch-
ing pins : ] n. un. V with õ: (A'Obeyd, TA :) or
Jis viby's signifies what catches, or sticks fast,
in a lock; (S, Ķ ;) [or, as expl. in the Arabic
Dictionary of Farhát, what enters into a lock and
makes it fast ; ] meaning its teeth ; (TK ;) [which
are the little pins described above : ] the word is
thought by IDrd to be not Arabic : or, thus
applied, it is from the same word as signifying
" a thin bone," because of the thinness of the
Chi of the lock. (TA.)

the ground: (Mgh :) a thing that is spread for
in ten places. = Also IA ,فَرَاشْ see: فَرَاشَةٌ
small quantity of water : (A, O, Ķ, TA :) one
Bays, ◌ٌلَمْ يَبْقَ فِى الإِنَّآء إلَّا فَرَاشَة [There remained
not in the vessel save a small quantity of water].
(O, TA.) And A small quantity of water ro-
maining in pools left by torrents, the ground be-
neath which is seen, by reason of its clearness :
and some say, a place where water collects and
remains in a smooth, or hard and smooth, roch.
(TA.) = And Great stones, like mill-stones,
which are laid first [as a foundation] and upon
which is then built a Sj, i. e. an enclosure for
palm-trees. (TA.) = And ◌ِالفَرَّاشِتَّان Bignifies
Two cartilages near, or by, the öly [which gene-
rally means the uvula ; hut also, the arches, or
pillars, of the soft palate ; or the furthest part of
the mouth]. (TA.)
Ais One who spreads the carpets and similar
furniture [such as beds, or mattresses, and the like,
and keeps them in order : app. a post-classical
word : fem. with 8]. (KL.)
a hind] شاذَكُونّة A thing resembling the مِفْرَشْ
of thick quilted stuff made in El-Yemen]; (O,
Ķ ;) i. e. a thing that is put upon the ino [or
covering next the saddle] to sit upon; (TA;) as
also Vib. : (A, TA :) or the latter is smaller
than the former, (O, K,) and is put upon the
año of the camel's saddle, (A,) or upon the camel's
saddle [itself ], to sit upon : (O, Ķ:) [pl. 4,u ... ]
-[Hence,] ,li's is applied to signify t Women,
قُلَانْ كَرِيمٌ ,or vives. (A, TA.) One says
J'ai t Such a one is a person who has high-
born wives or women; (A ;) or who takes as his
wives high-born women. (S, O, Ķ.) One says
also of a man who has never married, duy 2
ASAJJI, meaning +Verily his life has passed away
lost. (TA.) And ◌ِهُلْكُ المَفَارِش is said to mean
t Persons who will not die upon their beds, and
will not die otherwise than by slaughter. (TA.)

of two sorts, ◌ٍفَرْضُ عَيْن and ◌ٍفَرْضُ كِفَايَة : the
former is That whereof the observance is obligatory
on every one, and does not become of no force in
respect of some in consequence of the observanre
[thereof] by some [others]; as religious belief,
and the like : the latter is That whereof the obser-
vance is obligatory on the collective body of the
Muslims, and, in consequence of the observance
[thereof ] by some, becomes of no force in respect
of the rest; as warring against unbelievers, and
the prayer over the dead in the bicr. (KT.) You
Bay, ◌ْهُذَا أَمْرْ فَرْضْ عَلَيْهِم, and مَغْرُوضْ ٢, and
wifi, This is [a thing] made obligatory, or

Thy right, or,مُفْتَرَضْ and , مَفْرُوضَ and , فَرْض
due, is [a thing] made obligatory, or binding, by
God. (A.) نَصِيبًا مَفْرُوضًا؟ , in the Kur [iv. 8
and 118], means A share, or portion, determined,
defined, or limited, as to time, or otherwise : (Zj,
Ibn-'Arafchi :) or, in iv. 118, a share, or portion,
[.فَرِيضَةً cut off and limited. (S, O.) [Sec also
- A statute, an ordinance, a command or pro-
hibition, of the Apostle of God; syn. . (IAar,
O, Ķ.) [But Jojs is generally distinguished from
: the former, for instance, being applied to
prayer appointed in the Kur-án; and the latter,
to prayer appointed by Mohammad without alle-
gation of a divine order. ] __ A gift, or a soldier's
stipend or pay, syn. : Was, (A,) or aulas, ($, O, K,)
assigned, or appointed. ($, O, Ķ .* ) In the copics
.مرسومة is put by mistake for مُوسُومَة ,of the K
(TA.) You say, مَا أَصَبْتُ مِنْهُ فَرْضًا وَلَا قَرْضًا I did
not obtain from him an assigned, or appointed,
gift, or soldier's stipend, (S, O, TA,) nor a gift
to be requited, or a loan. (O, TA.) And Joy
also signifies A thing which one makes obligatory,
which one gives liberally, not for a recompense.
(IDrd, O, K.) = Also Soldiers who receive sti-
pends : (Ķ :) so accord. to Lth, as related by Az ;
but [Sgh says] I have not found it in the book
of Lth: (O:) or soldiers having definite portions
assigned to them : (A :) pl. Jogjs. (A, TA.) You
Bay, ◌ِعِنْدَهُ مِائَةٌ مِنَ الفَرْض He has with him a
hundred soldiers &c. (A.) = A shield. (§, O,
Ķ.) Şakhr-el-Ghei says, describing lightning,
(O, TA,) likening it to a light shield which an
announcer of tidings was turning over and over
with his hands that a party might see it and be
gladdened [by the signal], (TA,)

or piece of cloth : (O, K :) a meaning mentioned
by As on the authority of some one or more of
the Arabs of the desert, of Hudheyl. (O.) [See

rather caj, mentioned in the first sentence of

against a thing before him, or in commanding

one's duty in sleeping : the falling short of one's
duty is only the not awaking until the time of the

You say also, ◌ُفرّط اللهُ عَنْهُ مَا يَخْرَه God put away,
or removed, or averted, from him what he dislikes,
or hates: (Kh, S, O, Ķ:) but this expression is
seldom used except in poetry. ($, O.) =; %,
(O, K,) inf. n. Lunit, (TA,) also signifies IIe
praised him immoderately ; (O, Ķ, TA ;) like
23: (O, TA :) Sgh has expressed, in the TS,
his fear that the former may be a mistranscrip-
tion for the latter; but seems to have afterwards
conceded the correctness of the former, from his
mention of it in the O. (TA.)
dying in infancy]; syn."5 : ($, O, TA:) and
byl byl, said of a man, in like manner sig-
nifies Jf. (TA.) And you say also, ,

as though they preceded him to Paradise; (TA;)

which also signifies he lost a young child by death:
(TA :) or the last of these phrases, (Ķ,) or the last
but one, (S, O,) signifies he lost his child, or chil-
dren, (K,) or a young child, (§, O,) by death
before attaining to puberty. ($, O, K.) [See
The child's death أُقْتُرِطَ الوَلَدُ And [.اِحْتَسَبَ
was hastened; or was made to happen early.
(Th.) __ ',' He hastened him ; or made kim
to hasten. (S, O.) And you say also, 500
W LA + The cloud hastens and forwards the
water in the beginning of the [autumnal rain
أفرطت السَّحَابَةُ TA.) And) . وَسْمِىّ [called
I The cloud hastened with the [rain بِالوَسْمِيّ
called] ◌ّوَسْمِي.($,O, and the like is said in the
K.) And ◌ُافرط بِيّدِهِ إِلَى سَبْفِهِ لَيَسْتَلَّه He put his
hand hastily to his sword to draw it forth. (IApr,
O, K.) And 1,3l [alone] He hastened with an
affair. (K, TA.) And He advanced, or went
forward, before tarrying, or waiting, or pausing,
also [very أفرط - (.in the afair. (TA فى الأمر
frequently ] signifies He exceeded the due bounds,
or just limits ; or acted extravagantly, or immo-
derately; (S,O, Meb, K, TA;) فى الأمر in the
affair; (S, O, TA ;) and do in loving him;
فى in hating him ; (O, TA;) and فى بُغْضِهِ and
anis in praising him : (K:) it is likewise said
of anything exceeding the due bounds; [meaning
it was, or became, excessive, or immoderate : ] and
also signifies he did more than he was commanded.
(TA.) You say also, ◌ِقَرَطَ عَلَيْهِ فِى القَوْل He
exceeded the due bounds, or just limits, towards
him in speech. (K, TA.) And افرط فى القول He
talked [excessively, exceedingly, immoderately, or]
much. (TA.) [And, ◌ِأفرط عَلَيْه He acted insolently,
or presumptuously, towards him.] __ Also byil
Wie He loaded him (namely a camel, IKtt) with
that which he was unable to bear. (IK !! , Ķ.)
And افرط He filled (S, O, K) a مَزَادَة (S) or a
as (O) so that he made the water to flow : (O,
Ķ:) or a watering-trough or vessel (TA) so that
it overflowed : (K, TA:) and وقَرَطَ " فى حَوْضِه (O)
TA,) aor. , (O,) inf. n. Ljs, (TA,) he filled his
watering-trough : (O, TA :) or poured much water
into it. (TA.) - And ◌َأفرط النَّخْلَّة He left the
palm-tree without fecundation until its spadix be-
came dry and hard. (O, L, K. [See 1, near the
end.])
5. 1,5 He (a horse) outrent, or got before,
