Amir al-Mu'minīn Muawiyah ibn Abī Sufyan kedil
عن رباح بن الجراح الموصلي رَحِمَةُ اللَّهُ قال: سمعت رجلا يسأل
المعافى بن عمران رَحِمَةُ اللَّهُ، فقال: يا أبا مسعود، أين عمر بن
عبد العزيز من معاوية بن أبي سفيان؟ فغضب من ذلك
غضبا شديدا، وقال: لا يقاس بأصحاب رسول الله
ء
صَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أحد، معاوية صاحبه وصهره وكاتبه وأمينه على
وحي الله عز وجل وقد قال رسول الله صَلَّاللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((دعوا
لي أصحابي وأصهاري فمن سبهم فعليه لعنة الله والملائكة

والناس أجمعين))
Mu'afa ibn 'Imran alds was asked, "O Abū Mas'ud!
Where is 'Umaribn Abdil 'Aziz compared to
Mu āwiyah ibn Abī Sufyan?" (Upon hearing this
question), he became infuriated and said, "None
can be compared to the Șahabah of Rasūlullah

Murawiyah was his companion, his ; صَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
brother-in-law and his scribe and confidant upon
صَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ the revelation of Allah. Indeed Rasulullah
said, "Refrain from (speaking ill of) my companions
and my in-laws, for indeed whoever speaks ill of
them, then may the curse of Allah, his angels and
the whole of mankind be upon him."

عن أبي بكر المروذي رَحِمَةُ اللَّهُ قال: قلت لأبي عبد الله (أحمد
بن حنبل) رَحِمَةُ اللَّهُ: أيهما أفضل: معاوية أو عمر بن عبد
العزيز؟ فقال: ((معاوية أفضل، لسنا نقيس بأصحاب رسول
اللهِ صَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أحدا)). قال النبي صَلَّاللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((خير

الناس قرني الذين بعثت فيهم»
Abu Bakr Marwadhi ◌ُرَحمَهُ اللَّه narrates that he
enquired from Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal aufdas
regarding the better of the two: Sayyiduna
Muawiyah deals or Sayyiduna 'Umaribn Abdil
'Aziz ◌ُرَحمَهُ اللَّه .Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal ◌ُرَحِمَهُ اللَّه replied,
"Muawiyah is definitely better. We do not compare
, صَلَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ anyone with the Sahabah of Rasulullah
for indeed Nabi ◌َصَلَّاللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم said, 'The best of people
is my generation in which I was sent'."

فقال: كان معاوية أفضل من ستمائة مثل عمر بن عبد

Mu'afa alda was asked whether Sayyiduna
Muawiyah Meals was better or Sayyiduna Abdul
'Aziz ala.S. He replied, "Muawiyah is better than
six hundred (leaders) alike to 'Umaribn Abdil

عن إبراهيم بن ميسرة رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ قال: ما رأيت عمر بن عبد
العزيز ضرب إنسانا قط إلا إنسانا شتم معاوية، فإنه ضربه

Ibrahim ibn Maysarah ◌ُرحمَهُ الله narrates that he never
saw 'Umaribn Abdul Aziz aldas hitting anyone
except one person who spoke ill of Sayyiduna
Muawiyah Maks; he flogged him (a few) lashes.

قال الفضيل رَحِمَةُ اللَّهُ: أوثق عملي في نفسي حب أبي بكر
وعمر وأبي عبيدة بن الجراح، وحبي أصحاب محمد عَلَيْهِالسَّلَامُ
جميعا، وكان يترحم على معاوية رَضِاللَّهُ عَنْهُ ويقول: كان من

Fudail (ibn 'Iyad) aldas said, "The most hopeful of
my deeds, according to me, is (my) love for Abū
Bakr, 'Umarand Abu 'Ubaydah ibn Jarrah, and my
love for (all) the companions of Muhammad wiele
(in general)." He would invoke mercy upon
Sayyiduna Mu awiyah Meals and say regarding
him, "He was from the scholars among the
". عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ companions of Muhammad

سئل أبو عبد الرحمن النسائي رَحِمَةُ اللَّهُ عن معاوية بن أبي
سفيان رَضِ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا صاحب رسول الله صَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فقال:
إنما الإسلام كدار لها باب، فباب الإسلام الصحابة، فمن آذى
الصحابة إنما أراد الإسلام، كمن نقر الباب إنما يريد دخول
الدار، قال: فمن أراد معاوية فإنما أراد الصحابة. 76
Imam Nasai aldas was asked regarding Sayyidunā
Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan (Ecaulje), the companion of
Rasulullah ◌َصَلَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم .He replied, "Islam is like a
house with a door. The door of Islam is the Sahabah
,رَضِ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمُ Thus, whoever attacks the Sahabah. رَضِ اللَّهُ عَنْهُم
indeed wishes (to harm) Islam, just like the one
who pierces a hole in the door (of a house, in
reality) wishes to enter the house. Therefore,

whoever wishes (to harm) Muawiyah deals, in
reality wishes (to harm) the Şahabah Reale."
وعن زفر رَحِمَةُ اللَّهُ أن الإمام أبا حنيفة رَحِمَةُ اللَّهُ سئل عن علي
ومعاوية وَقتلى صفين رَضِ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، فقال: إذا قدمتُ على الله
يسألني عما كلفني ولا يسألني عن أمورهم."
Imam Zufar &ld narrates that Imam Abu Hanifah
aldas was enquired in regards to the matters
between Sayyiduna 'Alī Meals and Sayyiduna
Muawiyah deals and the martyrs of Siffin. He
,(سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى replied, "When I enter the court of Allah
he will question me in regards to those issues for
which he has made me responsible. He will not
interrogate me in regards to their matters."

The dispute that took place between the two
illustrious Sahabis Real. was centered upon what
each of them truly felt and understood to be the
correct stance. Their dispute was sincere and for
the sake of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى. Both have already
received their rewards and have secured their
abode in Jannah.
We, the Ahlus Sunnah, maintain our silence in
regards to the disputes that took place between the
Șahabah Newly. It is futile for us to engage in
discussions in this regard. We should take them as
our role model and prepare for our abode in
Jannah.
We pray that Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى fills our hearts with
love for all of the Sahabah Redukg and that He joins
us with them in the Hereafter. Āmīn.
