نُوْلًا and أو after (ولوم .in art ؟ roborative, (see
the conditional 3!, is sometimes difficult to ex-
press in English, except hy emphasis in pronun-
ciation; as in ◌ٌأَمَا إنَّهُ لَرَجُلْ كَرِيم Verily, or non
surely, he Is a generous man. This ex. occurs
voce Li. _ J redundantly prefixed, for cor-
roboration, to the J of comparison : seo a verse
of Tarafeh voce ثنى ; and another similar in-
stance in the Mugh, art. J .- ◌ًلَظَرُفَ زَيُّد means
How excellent, or elegant, in mind, manners,
address, speech, person, or the like, is Zeyd! syn.
Horo generous, &c., is لَكَرُمَ عَمْرُو and: مَا أَظْرَفَهُ
تَنِعْمَ هُوَ - (.Mugh). مَا أَكْرَمَهُ .Amr! syn'
مَا كَانَ لِيَفْعَلَ - .Excellent indeed is he, or it
means, accord. to the Koofees, ◌ُمَا كَانَ يَفْعَل ; the
J being redundant, to corroborate the negation :
. مَا كَانَ قَاصِدًا لِأَنْ يَفْعَلَ ,accord. to the Bagrees
. فى as equivalent to على Mugh.) See an ex. voce)

,قَسَمِى .inchoative; the enunciative of which, i.e
- (.عمر .is understood. (S, art ,مَا أَقْسِمُ بِهِ or
accord. to the Koofees, is ,يَالَ زَيْدٍ and,ياً نَزَيْدٍ
a contraction of يَا آل زَيْد.(Mugh, letter J ; and
El-Ashmoonee on the Alfeeyeh, $ الاستفائة.) It
seems that where the J is not connected with
the word following it, Ju is generally, if not
always, for Ji U ; and so sometimes when it is

y, the negative, does not necessarily restrict
to the signification of future time a marfooa aor.
following it: in a case of this kind, & is often
substituted for it in the explanation of a phrase ;
as in the instance of ◌ّلَا يَعْرِفُ هِرًّاً مِنْ بِر, in the
TA, art. 2; and the aor. is more properly ren-
dered by the present than by the future. __
: There is not any man standing لَ رَجُلَ قَائِمْ
(Mugh :) but when the subst. and epithet are
both simple words, and not separated, the latter
may be used in three different ways ; as in
other wise ; ظَرِيفٌ and ظَرِيفًا and لَا رَجُلَ ظَرِيفَ
it must be marfoog or mangoob, but not mebnee :
this relates to لا used ◌ِلِنَفْىِ الجِنْس .(Ibn-'A keel,
- . رَكَبَّهُ also, Lest. See ,لا - (.١٠١ .p
,There is nothing due to him لا لَهُ وَلا عَلَيْه]
nor anything to be demanded of him. (Thus I
have rendered this phrase, voce مَلَسَى, in three
places.) For] when y is a general negative, the
context renders it allowable to suppress its sub-
ject, as in ولا عَلَيْك for ◌َلَا بَأْسَ عَلَيْك ; and some-
times the predicate, when known, is suppressed,
as in لَا يَأْس . (Msb.) - لَاش , for لَا شَىْء :see
